Before I ever became a photographer, there was my Aunt Brenda.

She was our family photographer—the person who always seemed to have a camera in her hand. At birthdays, holidays, family gatherings, and ordinary days that didn't feel particularly important at the time, she was there taking photographs. And if she wasn't holding her camera, there was a good chance she had the video camera out.

Growing up, I don't think I understood what she was giving us.

Years later, those photographs have become pieces of our family history. They're imperfect, warm, nostalgic, and completely irreplaceable. They hold people as they were, places as I remember them, and moments I might have otherwise forgotten.

That's part of what drew me to film.

There is something about waiting for the photograph, the grain, the color, and the way film renders a moment that feels different from digital. It reminds me that photographs aren't only meant to look beautiful today. They're meant to mean something years from now.

So when I bring film into a wedding day, I'm not trying to recreate the past. I'm creating something your family can carry into the future.

One day, these won't just be your wedding photos.
